Congress Government’s Decision on Crop Procurement a Curse for Farmers: KTR

BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) launched a scathing attack on the Congress government, alleging that its recent decision regarding crop procurement would severely harm farmers across Telangana. Addressing a BRS party meeting in the Both constituency, KTR said the party would continue its fight until the government withdraws its decision not to procure crops beyond the quota fixed by the Centre.
KTR recalled that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had earlier promised to procure every grain produced by farmers within 15 days, but has now allegedly backtracked on that assurance. He claimed that the State Cabinet had recently taken a decision that would adversely affect farmers and urged party leaders to take this issue to every village and every farmer.
According to KTR, the Congress government has decided to limit procurement in accordance with the quota prescribed by the Central Government. He argued that such a policy would force farmers to sell surplus produce in the open market, causing heavy losses. He alleged that under the previous BRS government, every grain produced by farmers was procured irrespective of financial burden on the State.
Calling upon farmers to hold Congress leaders accountable, KTR said they should question the government over its promises of bonuses and procurement centres. He alleged that the Congress administration had failed to safeguard farmers’ interests and accused it of creating a fresh agrarian crisis in the State.
The BRS leader also criticised both Congress and BJP Members of Parliament, stating that elected representatives from Telangana must jointly press the Centre to ensure procurement of farmers’ produce. Referring to previous efforts made during the BRS regime, he said the then government had approached New Delhi with ministers, MPs, MLAs and MLCs to secure procurement support for Telangana farmers.
KTR further alleged that since the Congress came to power, several farmer welfare initiatives had weakened, resulting in problems such as fertiliser shortages, power issues, procurement uncertainties and an increase in farmer distress. He credited former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) for implementing landmark schemes such as Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima, loan waiver programmes and large-scale irrigation projects, which he said transformed Telangana into a leading agricultural State.
Stating that the farming community needs strong leadership once again, KTR called upon party workers and farmers to remain united and continue the struggle for farmers’ rights.
Former Ministers Prashanth Reddy and Jogu Ramanna, MLAs Anil Jadav, Padi Kaushik Reddy and Dr. Kalvakuntla Sanjay, MLC Naveen Kumar Reddy, former MLA Jeevan Reddy, BRS leader Johnson Nayak and several other party leaders participated in the programme.
